Self Assessment Test (Material Balances Chap.3)  A two-stage separations unit is shown in Figure AT3.5-1. Given the input stream F1 is 1000 lb/hr, calculate the value of F2 and the composition of F2. A simplified process for the production of SO3 to be used in the manufacture of sulfuric acid is illustrated in Figure AT3.5-2. Sulfur is burned with 100% excess air in the burner but for the reaction S + O2 → SO2, only 90% conversion of the S to SO2 is achieved. In the converter, the conversion of SO2 to SO3 is 95% complete. Calculate the lb of air required per 100 ln of sulfur burned, and the concentrations in mole fraction of the components in the exit gas from the burner and from the converter. Penyelesaian  1.   Diketahui  :  input F1 = 1000 lb/hr        Neraca massa total         F 1  = P 1  + P 2D  + P 2B  ......................................................................
